Place: Newton Lake, Collingswood, NJ
Date: Sat. April 7, 2018
Time: 7:00am-2:00pm
Weather: Chilly, overcast skies with barely any sun shine the entire day. Well at least till at weigh in.
Air Temps: Started out at 46 Degrees but quickly dropping down to 42 Degrees.
Water Temps: 49.5~50.7 Degrees
Water: Clarity: Down to 1.0"
Wind Gust: 10-20mph.
Best Lure: Traps, crankbaits, and Finesse jigs
Depths fished: 2.0'~ 4.0'
Limit: 3
----------------------------------------------
The Weathermen got it all WRONG! No Snow. No Rain, and warmer Air Temps the previous night allowed for a dry, pseudo comfortable morning launch.
After the past 2 weeks of brutal bites and multiple anglers skunking, SJHT anglers got on the board and some with better results than others.
Newton always proves to be a decent, productive body of water. Whether fishing wood, shallow points, the community fishing hole, or just areas where Bass would typically hide\ambush there prey, the bass were active early but then somewhat died down as the morning\early afternoon approached.
Today, 13 SJHT members came out to redeem themselves from last weeks showing. I can report that anglers had better luck than the miserable weather, fishing, and just overall conditions that was experienced the last 3 weeks.
Without further adieu....Please give a big shout out to Bill *Bring on D.O.D.* Leach for taking 1st place and Lunker with 2 Bass weighing 6.43lbs. Bill's Lunker went a hefty 4.83lbs.. 2nd Place was won by Rob *Ram1212* M. with 3 Bass going 4.29lbs. 3rd Place was won by action Jackson with 3 Bass weighing 4.23lbs. Miscellaneous was won by Joe *Rendell* H. with a 1.26lb Catfish. This edged out Bills by catfish by .11lb

Always something happening when we fish Newton Lake.....LOL
Summary: Water temps are improving. The bass activity is improving. The weather has begun cooperating....so good things are in store as we head closer to the NJ Closed Bass Season. A club is only as strong as there weakest link and we have some strong and able bodied anglers here. For the day, I lost 2 good ones on a trap as I thought I had another Diamper or sofa pillow being pulled in. LOL!!! Once I realized it was a Bass, my train of thought was lost for a second grabbing the net without fully setting the hook good. Next thing you know....Bye Bye Bass!!! That was my day in a nutshell. Other anglers reported them scattered on both sides of the waterways. Some didn't get bite at all...while some did.
Congrats once again to Bill L on the win and the rest of the anglers.
Next up is [b] D.O.D LAKE next WEEK.
Tightlines,

Congrats Bill! Way to get a limit Rob and Jackson. My day was a couple of shorts by 830. I was as the song goes the Cool Jerk all day. Hit a late flurry around 12:30 of 4 fish but only 2 keepers.
