I know...more trolling motor opinions
Crappie Jon
You guys gotta be getting tired of this by now, but i got another question. So i just had my first issue with my riptide. The hand control handle is pretty much falling apart inside. So while im lookin into getting that fixed, i see myself buying another tm soon.

My first question is, has anyone here gone from an edge to a maxxum? I see that the maxxum has the 360 breakaway mount that the edge doesnt, and im know to hit some things. The maxxum also has the digital maximizer, which i dont think that the edge offers.

Second question: I'm considering upgrading to a 24 volt system. Would a 70lb 24v system be a big step up from a 55lb 12v syatem?

Shopping online, the maxxum 42" shaft 55lb 12v is 749.99 w/o tax and the maxxum 42" shaft 70lb 24v is 779.99 w/o tax. Thoughts? Thanks again guys

Rule of thumb, buy the biggest motor you can afford.
Maxxum definitely cause the maximizer lets you run for 2 days of fishing on one charge. 70lb 24v will be a huge step up. You cant go wrong with that. I vote for you to get a 101. Grin

Lol! I'd be up on plane with a 101!! But i think the maxxum 70 is in my future

Do it, for that little of an extra cost it is worth it in my opinion.

The 70 should make your boat fly. I have the 80 and my boat moves pretty good. Just remember you are going to need another batterythumbup

your boat will get on plane with a 70 LOL. but seriously, get the 70. its only like $50 more. u will only regret it if u get the 55. i have the 80lb minnkota fortex that also has the digital maximizer and i can do two 8 hour tournements on 1 charge, and my boat is heavy.....even without me in it.

Good news, i fixed my riptide woohoo I found some exploded views on the internet and found a piece called the "Off Dentent SS" or something like that. So today i slowly and carefully took off the top of the motor and opened up the handle and what do you know, this piece is broke in half.

With the help of a bench vice, some lock pliers, a small cut-off wheel, and a scrap peice of aluminum, i fabbed up a new one. Installed it and put it all back together and it works great!

Now its a matter of a buyer and the new one will be getting ordered.

what lb thrust????

Crappie Jon
maxxum 70lb. Took it out on the Mullica River yesterday evening. Thing hauls azz!! Even against a running tide. My riptide on high is like this thing on 50-60%. Went to the rivr because i also got a Doel-Fin for my outboard. I dont feel like dolphin anymore! Going out again today to fish a bit and get used to it before Squan
