CLIFF NOTES VERSION.....
Saturday, SJHT had 10 members come down to fish the Salem Canal and according to some anglers, the bite was tough. Since I was not there, I can only surmise that with the Hot Dog days of summer with us and the consistent warmer air temps with barely any rain the past week, the bass were in somewhat of a funk.
Without further adieu, lets give a big congrats to Jackson *Silent Assassin* Fu for taking overall 1st place & lunker with 3 Bass going 6.40lbs. Jackson's Lunker went a nice 3.70lbs. 2nd Place was won by Dennis *Jiggen Den* T. with 3 Bass going 3.72lbs. [/b] 3rd Place was won by 2019 AOY Points Leader Brian *SubFish* M. with 3 Bass going 3.26lbs. MISCELLENOUS was won by Dan *Crappie Jon* F. with a nice Snake Head tipping the scales at 3.83lbs.

Summary: The Canal seems like it laid the smack down on the majority of the field. Yes...some anglers figured some things out but the weights tell a different story or maybe it's just the norm this time of year.
In All, 8 out of 10 SJHT Anglers caught at least 1 Bass. There were a total of 17 Bass caught overall. About the same that was caught at the Squan last week. These Bass gave way to a total of 24.67lbs caught overall. That gave way to a 1.45lb avg. for each Bass. 3 Anglers caught at least there 3 Bass Limit. I believe a total weight of approx. 44lbs and change was totaled at the Squan. with almost a 1lb difference in avg. weights.
The Canal like most of South Jersey's waters is typically dirty/muddy/Yahoo color in nature with some clearer portions near Dupont or going past the Sports-mens club. I'm not totally sure where anglers caught a majority of there bass but I'm guessing in the logjam or up in the wood early in the AM before the Sun got too high in the sky.
The Tale of the Tape reflects what we all know regarding the Canal. Fish can and will be caught but the weights this time of year show that cookie cutter size can add up for a 2nd and 3rd place finish.
Great job SJHT anglers. Fu Welcome back! Jiggen Den...nice to see you cash a check. Brian....every dog has its day.
Next up is CARNEGIE LAKE next week. Good luck to all as I should be back
