Newton Sun 5-16
7:30 am to 2:30 pm
Water temps 64 to 68
visability to one foot
Met my "ex" best friend at the ramp at 7-ish. We swallowed down our Wawa Breakfast andoff we went. It was his first time at the Newt, so I gave him the grand tour... We worked the Spadderdock with no takers (not one bite all day) BUT they where not to far from it! Pete had the first bite, fish picked up his brushhog and took off for the spadderdock, Swing and a miss though... I was next pow she was on... Here come the "EX" bf part! She was a nice 3-4lbs!!! after the hook set I called for the net, knowing it was a nice fish and that I didn't get the best hookset... You can amagine where it went from here. He told me to toss the bass in the boat and never made a move for the net. Suprise suprise she jumped at the boat and came unbuttoned... Needless to say we didn't find anymore "better fish! We did however find a few dinks and 2 keepers. Most dinks on the BH my keeper on the dropshot and Pete's on the Frog!! We lost two frogs via bite-offs. One on braid! I didn't think there where Pickeral in that joint???

Rainbow lake 5-20
12am to 3:30pm
water temps 65 to 70
visability to one foot two feet in the back
Solo trip this time! It started right away with close to a dozen bites on the Brushhog with out a hookset... I had a real nice 2+ pounder follow the BH to the boat, and snapping it in half!! I also streightened out a Gammy ewg on something BIG!!! They seemed to be sitting in isolatted pads or on wood near pads! I did manage to boat a real nice 2+ pounder! I also had a half dozen blow-ups on the frog, without a hookup... I'm still trying to figure out this topwater thing!!!
16"er on a stump
Jimbo
Damn you to Jimbo!!!! First it was Newton.... now Rainbow!!!
What's next Manasquan!!!
Way to put some time in.....I think I would have thrown you BF off the boat at Newton....but you should have known better with a poor hookset to begin with!!!
Just busting them....
I know before the dam blew out at Rainbow....there were alot of stumps. Hopefully....whatever was big on the other end was actually a fish. From my memory, Rainbow back in the day could get a little weedy...but nothing like say Parvin or Sunset lake. We actually use to fish Rainbow in the late part of March or early April.
So..we should be fine for say the July 10 date....
Thanks for sharing this report...
