-----------------------------------------------------

As Charlston Heston stated, "and shall it be done" 14 SJHT members and 2 guest came out on the last regular season ending club tournament to fish the Northeast River, MD. The 10-15mph winds facing the anglers somewhat changed up the game plans that many had in mind. Half the field ran out towards other marinas and coves while the other half stayed close to Anchor Marine.

With 4 anglers vying for the SJHT 2014 Angler of the Year award, this was what all had in mind when the schedule was put into place. Any fish caught determining and separating the men from the boys. The contenders did not disappoint nor did the runner up lay down.

Without further adieu, I'm proud to present you the winner of the Northeast River, MD tournament and this years SJHT 2014 Angler of the Year. Let's give a big shout-out to last year Rookie of the Year and now 2014 AOY Brian *SubFish* M. who stayed on his game plan all day long by weighing in 3 Bass going 10.78lbs. His Lunker went 3.98lbs. 2nd Place was won by fellow AOY contender Kyle *WallHanger* S. who also brought in 3 Bass going 8.42lbs. Kyle's Lunker went 3.87lbs. Not to be left out of the discussion was the AOY Leader going into the Northeast River Tournament. Rob *Ram1212* M. tried his best and really had an outstanding run. Rob took 3rd place with 1 Bass and Lunker winner going 4.92lbs.
Way to go Men!! You definitely brought your A-Games and battled till the very end!!!

1st place winner and 2014 SJHT AOY Brian *SubFish* M.:

i39.photobucket.com/albums/e159/BigNasty06/2014%20SJHT%20Club/20140906_150340_zpsdcnfs0f5.jpg

There were 2 Limit brought to the scales.. 7 out of 16 anglers weighed at least 1 Bass. There were a total of 13 Bass weighed in totalling 32.29 lbs. That gave way to avg. bass weight of 2.48lbs.

The Northeast River body of water like many places this time of year is fishing somewhat tough. Many anglers including myself could not bring a keeper to the scales not for a lack of effort. There were some anglers that barely got a bite. Hell, If it was not for some suddle adjustments with bait color selections, weights vs. non weight, and just simple timing according to the tide chart, things could have been a lot worse for everyone.

The Northeast River and running to places I probably should not have ventured to took it toll on the SS BigNasty. See for yourself.

So in summary, Brian *SubFish* M. becomes the 1st SJHT angler to win 2013 Rookie of year and follow it up with 2014 AOY Awards. Kyle although only fishing in a handful of the 2014 reg. season tournaments makes a hard late season push for AOY but falls a bit short. Kyle had been on a recent streak of winning multiple club tournaments over thee last month or so. Rob *Ram1212* did his best to hold onto to his AOY lead but those Lenape, Rainbow, and Canal tournaments is what ultimately hurt his chances. With the late start due to the severe winter weather we had back in March going into April, many of these contenders did catch there first bass till at least there 3rd tournaments of the season. This right here goes to show...it's not how your start but how you finish and keep at it. The sport of Bass fishing is a marathon and just like in life, we have to go back to the drawing board and reinvent ourselves. I would like to Thank Jackson for giving others the opportunity to feel the glory even though word on the street is that I should have his name engraved on this years 2014 Classic Championship Belt in advance. LOL.

A big Thanks goes out to my officers and specifically Jiggen Den for making all of the 2014 Tournaments, assisting with the check-in process, weigh in's, and making sure any disputes\issues went smoothly. With my schedule earlier on, your help and attention to detail was noted. Rob and Dan....thanks for the photographs went I was not in attendance.

Note: A Northeast River MD trip would not be complete unless the Nasty man and Mr. Henderson paid a visit to the newly opened and fully stocked Precision Tackle store right as your exiting the Anchor Marine roadway heading back towards Rt. 40.

Pics to prove we found it.....lol

Congrats to Brian for turning it up this season! clap

A very close AOY race made it pretty interesting, congrats to Kyle for second and Rob on lunker, great job!

What a finish for Brian! Congrats on AOY! Nice bag to show for it! Way to hang in there and finish the regular season. A big congrats to Kyle for making an impressive run to the finish line, and coming in second place! Maybe next year you won't miss that many tourn!!!LOL And congrats to Rob for a very strong finish and kept the pressure on all of us for some time. The tour. that we can't seem to bring even one fish to the scales hurt alot, myself included. I met up with BN around the corner from Furnace bay which I ran to and hooked into my first fish and was fighting like a 5 lbder only to see it was a striper!!! I was like NOOOOO! Then on my 4th cast another strike, and yes another striper! Furnace Bay was loaded with submerged grass and lots of it and also alot of decaying grass on top. Decided to leave after a while and met with BN, and we ventured for the run to the Sass. I got beat up with the swells and wind and my back was killing me by the time we got there. I didn't even feel like fishing. All that and I had only one bass hit near a tree set hook and after 3 sec. it was gone! I was a hurtin pup by the time I got home and still am hurting after coming home from work. I did not notice by my prop on my trolling motor had a chunk missing and my ss prop on my Merc had some rough edges all around. Would like to thank BN for the kind compliments on being there in his abscence, but would have to share that with Rob,Dan,John & Jay for also helping out one way or another. Bob V and Joe Reed also helped out in a tour or two recording weights. Thanks guys, as little as it seems it means alot. I like to thank members for sharing info. I am one to ask alot of questions, that's how we learn and become better. Lets all give a big thanks to BN for another fine year with SJHT Club. Even though you missed a few here and there and we understand this is part of life, we don't forget you made this club what it is today and we thank you for it!!!

Nice write up BN.

Congrats Brian on the AOY win. I watched the show from about 50-75 yards away most of the morning and you earned it brother.

I did want it so bad, but just couldn't make it happen the last month. Looking forward to next year.

Congratulations Brian on winning AOY. Way to bounce back after Rainbow. Great job Kyle, Rob and Den for the exciting end to the 2014 season.

Congrats Brian, good job on a great season. Way to make it interesting Kyle, Rob, and Den. clap

Subfish
X2 with the excellent write-up BN. Thanks for what you do. I also appreciate you including my wife as we were texting back and forth through out much of the morning. While I don't usually like any distractions, I just needed her to know how things were going. She's the main reason I am even able to do these tournaments!

Thanks to Rob, Den and Kyle for a great finish. No offense to Jackson and the beating he laid down on everyone last year, but it is so much more interesting when there is an actual race and coming down to the last tourney is well... just a fantastic way to end a season. I will say I am very happy to have been a part of that race, however it would have been fun no matter who was in it.

On to the fishing. Lets just say I had very little confidence going in to the finale on Saturday. After 2 days of practice, and very little prior experience, I had only caught a handful of fish with the biggest being around 4lbs. I fished everywhere from the grass in the Flats to the skinniest water in the creeks. Most of the other fish I picked up were in the 1.5lb range and I just didn't feel I knew enough about the place to win.

Then Saturday came and it was time to launch. With the winds blowing in I decided to just make a right into the creek and give it a shot while the tide was still coming in. I began fishing some wood with nothing but a few small nibbles for the first half hour. Rob was fishing nearby, and about 7:05 or so I saw him land a real nice fish (turned out to be the 4.9lb lunker). My heart sank as I felt it was out of reach now since I was already down over 3 points. But not a minute or two later I hooked in to the first of what would end up being a 20+ fish day. A nice 3 lb'er. And then another. And another. This was by far the best day I had ever had. No fish was less than 2.5 lbs and they just kept biting. When it was all said and done, I had not moved further than 50 yds the whole day and culled nice fish over 10 times. Still cannot believe that it went down like it did. Sometimes it IS better to be lucky than good.

A big thanks goes out to all the SJHT officials - Jay, John, Den and the rest of the guys who helped things run smoothly this year. It is a big plus to have great guys taking care of the reigns when Nasty is away.

And thanks to all the other members who make this the best club going in South Jersey. It was a fun season. Now on to the Classic!
