Sassafras River Tournament
ram1212
Hi All,

For anyone that has not fished the Sass with us OR just needs a refresher...

At Duffy's there is not enough room around the ramp for boats to hang while everyone puts in before the start of the tournament. Once you put in, idle out of Duffy's and hang out right in front until Jiggin Den or myself are out there to give the "go."

I will need a hand once again with Livewells and at the ramp if needed.

There is also a ramp & parking fee of either $11 or $12. Please try to have exact change for the Tournament Entry as well please.

One more...don't forget the MD license.

If i have left anything out, please let me know. Thanks guys on you on Saturday.

Derrick....By all means, that is a possiblity, however I will HIGHLY Caution and recommend that if the boat traffic of the Yachts and other recreational crafts out there, it can easily flip you over in your lower to the water size vessel.

In fact, even if you are near the shore line, a larger size boats wake can give you quite the scare. Last year, at the Part Deux of this same time tournament, I was very mindful of how well the waves sneak up on you.

In the coves, you could\would be fine. Out on the main body of the water going shore to shore can be a little tricky.

Note: When Loading up your boats back on the trailer, you must use your Trolling motors and not the outboard to power up on the trailer. Duffy's is very watchful when anglers attempt that maneuver.

Since there are folks that live on there boats, please keep the voices down to a minimum in the AM as we don't want to wake them.

Laura at Duffy's is aware of our arrival and scheduled dates.

For this Tournament, Only the Sassafras River and it' creeks can be fished. No running up to Elk Rivers, the NorthEast, or Sussaqhana River regions.

I'm not for sure if the Sassafrass River No Wake\Idle speed limit is in effect (from the Marker buoys) but please beware once leaving Duffy's of the Channels and No Wake Buoys markers) as they can be hard to see. Trus me.... I know and been there.

Good Luck to all and be safe.

Derrick I think its best if you just fish on someone elses boat, im sure there is someone who wouldnt mind you fishing with them

Trust me google earth does the Sassafras no justice, I was thinking about taking my 14ft jon boat out there last year, and the second I saw how big it was im glad I didn't.

Good luck guys ill be leaving for Champlain friday night hoping to have a nice report when i return fishing4

Derrick, I already have a rider or you would be welcome. If you end up using your boat, if you go left out of Duffy's it is smaller and plenty of water to fish. You will probably be safe heading in that direction.

BASS HOPPER
Same here Derrick if i didnt have slim going you would be more than welcome to go with me.I think you will be fine in ur boat. I wouldn't hesitate to take my small boat there.

derrickbray
Thanks Yall for the thought. I am going to just bring my boat and see how it goes. I just am ready to fish and hopefully not get skunked again lol. Plus cant get too much worse than Union LMAO

Kyle
Derrick u will be fine out there on your boat. Just go left out of the marina as the river is more narrow and therefore should be calmer. Trust me, the sassafras is just like how the northeast is in how u don't need to even leave the marina to win a tournament lol

and unlike the first Sass Tournament, you can run to anywhere you like outside of the Sassafras....if you so choose to.

Note: The Tide Charts along with High\Low Times.

Keep in the mind the White Marker buoy's and the No Wake Zones.

Stay safe and watch out for the shallow areas if heading out of the Sass out to the Bigger River.

Nope...doing a fine job Rob! I will say that at times and depending on where one is fishing, Cell Phone Reception can be a bit tricky or non-existant. Just beware of no cell phone reception and carrying your Emergency Contact Listings.

One other foot note would be to watch out for the River Patrol (especially up in the Sassafras River area). Now that Memorial Day has passed, they are more than ever patrolling and doing license\registration checks.

The weather is suppose to be really nice so definitely all becareful.
