Welcome to SJHT's 1st kickoff tournament for the 2026 season. 9 SJHT anglers came out to compete at MALAGA Lake but due to trolling motor wiring issues, only 8 anglers were able to get going at the start. Anglers were pumped to wet a line after a tough winter. Apparently the Bass were also still in hibernation mode but someone always figures them out!
Let's Go!
Please give a big congrats to Jackson *I'm back itches* Fu on taking 1st place and Lunker with 2 Bass going 7.19lbs. Fu's monster Lunker went an incredible 5.85lbs. Second place was won by David *IYKYK* Snedeker with 2 Bass going 7.04lbs. There was no Third place as no other anglers brought any other bass to the scales. [b] Bill *The Hammer* Leach caught the winning MISC Crappie fish going .97lb.
[b] MALAGA LAKE TALE OF TAPE:
[b]Jackson's 1st place and Lunker with 2 Bass at 7.19lbs
David Snedeker 2nd Place bag at 7.04lbs:
Bill's MISC winning Crappie at .97lbs:
BN06's Miscellaneous Pickeral .69lbs.
[b]Summary: SJHT 2026 season is now officially open. It's been a long winter and most of the bass seemed dorment but someone always figures them out. Malaga has always been a Pickeral fest with the occasional slobber knocker thrown in, but Saturday proved extremely tough. Whether one was down by the damn or Mid way in the lake, bites were a dime a dozen. Hoping our next tournament at Rainbow lake proves to be more fruitul.
So this week, we had only had 4 keeper size bass weighed in. The total weight of all bass was 14.23lbs. That gave way to an avg. of 3.56lbs. 2 out 8 anglers caught at least 1 Bass. There were 0 limits weighed in. MALAGA was very stingy and the bass bite seemed non-existant. Getting any nibble proved tough for most anglers outside the numberous Pickeral caught. See my pic as exhibit#1.
Congrats to Jackson Fu, David Snedeker, and Bill Leach on your performances.
