So I brought my 5ft ultralight fishing rod on the bus and to school. Everyone kinda knew when I walked down the hallway that morning that I was going fishing after school. After 7 hours of Chemistry, English, Math and all those other fun subjects it was time to head out to Mullica Hill Pond. A lot of people go there and I heard some nice fish come out of there so why not I thought I'd give it a try.
I got to the lake about 3:45 and I saw some guys fishing for trout. I thought hmm thats cool, but Im an Urban angler from Jersey and I didnt come to Mullica Hill Pond looking for trout. I came to catch some bass. I started fishing underneth a tree with a motoroil trick worm. I realized 5in might be to big for these fish so I go with a small little green pumpkin grub. I cast over there for about 10 minutes and dont get a bite. I go over to the spillway and fish there for about 5 minutes. Nothing
I decide to go back in the woods area and as Im walking back there I see a wasp. I didnt want to get stung so I moved to the other side of the tree I was fishing. I started to cast and then relize I have bugs crawling all over me I shook them off and moved to where the parking lot is.
I have my grub on and my first cast is next to a log in the water. I twitch my lure and I feel "Tap" "Tap" "Tap" I set the hook got one, nice one. Im saying dont get of Dont get off. I reel it in Pickerel and it swallowed the hook and I have no Pliers on me. Decent sized pickerel to. I cut my line and threw him back in with the hook it his mouth and he was bleeding.
I re-tie on my lure and cast by some weeds I get a few taps here and there but never set the hook on anything. After the bites stopped over there I moved to the other side of the stick of where I caught the pickerel. I threw it over there and got it over a stick. Oh crap. Then right before I jerk to try and get it out. A big splash was right where my lure was. It looked like a bass hitting a topwater lure and it was shallow there. I jerk and the line came of the stick and while reeling it in Im saying, Please don't be a pickerel, Please not a pickerel. I reel it in to the shore line... DAMN IT. I thought is was a nice 2lb bass by the way it bit, but no It was a pickerel and I gotta get him off. Once I let slack on the shore line the hook just popped out so I lucked out there.
I stayed for about another hour after that with only a few more bites. No bass though. I'll get them next time though.
Here are the pics (Special thanks to BN for putting the pictures up because that was basically the only way I could upload them)
This was the first one. The one I caught my first cast over at the ramp
This is the one I wished was a 2lb bass by the way it exploded on it but Oh Well
