Weather: Little chilly overcast 35 degree start; with barely any sunshine throughout the later part of the day. Temps rising to balmy 44degrees.
Water Temps: 43.4 degrees rising up to 44.2 degrees.
Water Clarity: Typical Canal YooHoo color; No sign of clearer waters; Visability down to 1/4''
Wind Gust: Quite calm with slight breeze later in the AM.
Best Lure: Jigs;Mid running crankbaits;
Depths fished: 2'~4.5'
Bass Limit: 3

Welcome to the 2013 SJHT Bass Fishing Club season. Today, we kicked off the season by visting the stingy Salem Canal.
Welcome once again New and old members of SJHT.
Enought of the chit chat!!!! Today, SJHT had 20 Club members come out to play. Way to go Guys and Gal!!!
Anglers found it very tough to develop any type of pattern. Small pick ups were very suddle and one had to basically put the baits in front of the Bass mouth in order to even get a sniff.
There were only 8 bass caught....giving a total weight of 19.05lbs. That gave an avg. of 2.38lbs per bass
Without further adieu, please give a shout-out to 1st place and Lunker winner Kerry *Big856K* S. for weighing in 1 Bass weighing 5.33lbs. Kerry also won Lunker with a 5.33lber Beast of a bass . Second place went to the Silent Assassin Jackson F. for weighing in 2 Bass going 4.43lbs.. Third Place went to to new Rookie Brian M. for weighing in 1 Bass going 2.40lbs. Way to figure them out men!!

Note: Congrats to Jay *SmellyHooker* N. on his 2012 SJBCA Fishing Excellence award for best 3 Bass Limit.
So as one can see, the tale of the tape shows that there were NO LIMITS caught on the canal this weekend. It was tough as Balls out there today....not to mention the bite not even really starting for most. I believe the combination of the rain, cold front, and the dropp in temps made the fishing that much tought. Congrats to Kerry, Jackson, and our new rookie Brian on top finish!!!

Hats off to the frozen 20 who braved the cold.
Way to go Kerry you may be holding the lunker for the year. Is that the same fish Jay caught last year? It gained a little weight over the year.
Congrats to Jackson and Brian and everyone who caught fish.

Congrats Kerry on the tough win!
Nice job out there to the other fish catchers. Even though the total amount of fish was WAY down, the ones caught were some nice ones. Kerry's may stand until the end of the year, that baby was something else. |

Congrats to all those who caught fish. A tough bite indeed, but I know that even though most did not catch a keeper it was still a blast getting out on that first tour of the year!! It wasn't too bad in the AM, and one can only think if I can only catch one keeper I may be in this thing! being as tough as it was. Oh well still had fun fishing with White Mike. Nice fish Kerry, and Jackson I have a tough enough time figuring out the fish let alone you!LOL And Brian nice going taking 3rd place!!!

Man ill never forget seeing that fish come up and shake its head...when I saw that i said to myself "game over"...I knew right then it was the winning fish
