Having already fished more than have of our clubs 2009 schedule, today 15 members and 3 guest (BND, Kelly, & Joey) came out to partake in our annual Newton lake HoagieFest\Pizza festivities. All of this was followed by a little bit of fishing on the Newt!!!
Continuing from where many anglers left off from, "Stone Tavern", members had there pre-game faces on and were ready to rumble for this quasi afternoon\evening tournament.
Knowing that this place can produce some decent fish, Dan "The Man" S. and his guest Joey were working the shoreline pretty good
However, someone must have told "BassHopper" that 5BigGirls was away fishing the ABA's. LOL!!!
A big congratulation goes out to Red Hot Member Brian *Bass Hopper* S. for winning his 5th Tournament of the year and his 3rd in a row!! This guy definitely has his sights on the 2009 AOY Title. What started out for me with a slow bite definitely picked up as the sun began to set. I started out throwing aStrike King Shad type Traps with a couple of follows and small size dinks caught. I Gradually moved to tossing some shaky head jigs laced with some finesse worms with no takers. I got a couple of taps on the DS but no real takers. Other anglers were also throwing a gambit of soft plastics and even some top water lures but for me the action was definitely in the pads and close to shoreline. With the water temp nearing almost 90 degrees and the bright, scorching overhead sun, the bass were not in the mood to be chasing really anything move fast. The bites earlier on was somewhat suddle but then the nice blows after 6pm really got anglers standing tall on the trolling motors. There were alot of HUGE missed fish lost in the last 1 hour of the tournament and alot OMG WTF!!! screaming!!! We had 6 limits brought to the scales and 13 out of 18 anglers bring a bass to the scales. Good job to everyone.
Don't know what Bass Hopper has been eating lately, but I may have to have some!!! Congrats once again!!!
Next week is the throw down on the Canal! Hope to see everyone there!!!
