First off welcome back old and new members to the 2014 SJHT Bass Club fishing season. Johnny P. (R) there will be brighter days for all so please be a little patient.

Back in effect on a very stingy and windy day on Malaga Lakel!!!!

i39.photobucket.com/albums/e159/BigNasty06/2014%20SJHT%20Club/20140315_084724_zpsgtyy2tsm.jpg

What can one say? 21 anglers came out to do battle after a lengthy, snow winter which made the most simple angler jonesing to get out on some open water.

Nice Turnout SJHT!!!

i39.photobucket.com/albums/e159/BigNasty06/2014%20SJHT%20Club/20140315_144104_zpsk3kxfjj5.jpg

Enough of the chit chat!!!! Today, SJHT had 21 Club members come out to play.

Anglers found it very tough to develop any type of pattern. With the wind tunnel windy conditions, slowly rising air\water temps, and Malaga just recovering from ice-hot just last week, the bass were not holding deep nor in the shallows. I believe they got the message and took a vacation down to Florida. LOL

I wish I could report any pick-ups, but my dear friends many of SJHT finest Gots NOTHING!!!! NADA! ZILCH!

Between anglers trolling motors becoming victims of Malaga Lakes hidden stumps and the battery drain caused by the ferocious winds, anglers were falling like flies as the day went on. A couple of anglers had to be towed in. The Big motor also required to be fired up in the aid of a fellow member. Can you say CRAZY Winds!!!! There I just said it!!!

There were only [b] 6 bass caught
....giving a total weight of 11.13lbs. That gave an avg. of 1.86lbs per bass Totally Brutal opening day results!!

Without further adieu, please give a shout-out to 1st place and Lunker winner Kyle *WallHanger* S. for weighing in 2 Bass weighing 3.75lbs. Kyle also won Lunker with a 2.28lber bass . Second place went to Rob *Ram1212* M. for weighing in 1 Bass going 2.01lbs.. Third Place went to Brian *BassHopper* S. for weighing in 1 Bass going 1.89lbs with like less than 8 minutes left in the tournament . Way to figure them out men!!

Kyle *WallHanger* S. 1st Place win and 2.28lber Lunker winner:

So as one can see, the tale of the tape shows that there were NO LIMITS caught at Malaga Lake today. It was tough as Balls out there today....not to mention the bite not even really starting for most. I believe the combination of Thursday's drop in temperature, cold front made the fishing that much tought. Congrats to Kyle, Rob, and Brian *BassHopper's* top finish!!!

See you all next week for our 2nd Club tournamnet at Union Lake.

Tightlines,

Congrats Kyle and all the fish catchers. Were all the fish caught on the lipless crankbait?

I fished Malaga a bit unconventional yesterday.

Many times have I made the mistake of fishing too fast when slowing down was the key to getting bit (ie: traps, spinnerbaits, crankbaits) so I fished a lot slower than I normally would.

I caught 2 pickerel hoping and dragging a jig near the channel and the first drop off near the flat toward the middle of the lake. Unfortunately my drop shot, jig, and grub never got bit. Still made about 100 casts with a trap though.

Jiggen Den teach me the ways of the JIGZ! Iknow

jiggin den
Nothing for me Mike, on the jig. fished it as slow as can be and not even a pickup. As I thought about it I guess maybe the fish were sort of suspended and with the grass being in lots of places, the jig I guess would fall and they would never even see it dragging through the grass, just my thoughts. Congrats to Kyle on bagging two keepers and lunker!! congrats to Rob,Bob and Brian, way to go guys! care to share a report?

Really not much to tell I fished the grass 90% of the day with a trap, spinnerbait, dropshot and a few other things with no luck.then i got away from the grass and tried jerkbait and picked up a real nice tiger perch going about 12". fished jerk for a bit longer with nothing so i went back to a trap and decided to go more toward the stumps and it was after 3 or 4 cast bam it hit hard the trap was so deep i didnt bother getting net this was about 1:40 so i think if we had another hr i think we would have seen more fish at the weigh in.

Not having fished Malaga in three years I really had no plan of action just show up and fish. I started on the sunny side of the lake hoping Warmer water would've brought the fish in But no luck not even a sniff. I hit down by the damn how long the docks with nothing to show. After a brief conversation about kids in college I turning cast and caught my keeper on a jerk bait. After dropping it in the live well I turned to make an additional test to that same spot hoping more than one was there when out of the corner of my eye I saw Rob getting blown up on to the bank and the logs. Without a second thought I put my rod down and drove over to him to give them a tow off the bank and back to the ramp. I returned to the spot of my catch but nothing was waiting for me LOL. That fish definitely wanted my jerk bait as he had it sideways in his mouth. I did note that where I caught that fish was the warmest part of the entire lake.

I saw that fish get caught...I couldn't get a bite on a trap or crank. I tried to drag a jig through the grass thinking they were hunkered down. Got the two pickeral on a jerkbait and they were my only bites.
