SJHT 7th tourn of the year on the Sassafras River, MD started out a bit overcast with a cool breeze. We had 9 members and 3 guests to challenge the mighty Sass. First, want to thank our guests Sue,Bill, and Tom for joining us. Most of the members went out running towards Lloyds ,Turner Creek area, and a few of us went left towards Georgetown bridge area at 213. including myself and guest.Water was amazingly normal looking in clarity from what I was expecting. We started off fishing a marina with no boats in it. A couple short hits with nothing to show. To cut this short My guest had one short and I had a small stripper, and that was it for us.
A big congrats goes out to Kyle for taking another first place win! with 3 fish for 8.71 lbs! his lunker 3.33lbs.

Our Pa. member Brian "Subfish" came in second with 2 fish for 7.05 and a new lunker leader with a chunk of 5.05.

Although a very nice lunker, fishing the Northeast in two weeks, that could change, we will see. Third place was taken by Bob V. with one going 2.30.

Congrats Bob! Want to thank Rob for a big hand in helping me in the A.M. and at weight in. Parking was fine with no problems.
Sassafras River Tale of the Tape:

6 fish were caught for 18.06 which made that an average of 3.01 lbs. Well I wonder if Brian Basshopper made it home yet???LOL He had his wife as a guest and he said he was staying until he caught a keeper! I asked her if she brought her pajamas!!LOL See you all in two weeks when the BIG GIRLS are coming to the scales!!!

Congrats to Kyle and Brian with a beauty of a lunker. I went east and fished Mill creek. Hooked up with a short and a carp in the first half hour, after that nothing. Stayed up the east side all day and found another cove with fish chasing all along the shore line. I don't know if they were small bass feeding or fending beds, but I couldn't get one to bite. That is all for me. I was surprised at how much of a tide swing there was. We launced at dead low tide. High tide was around 12:30. I bet there was about a 5ft or so swing. I didn't think that happened down there? |

Fantastic job Jiggen Den and Rob!!!!
Great write-up, day on the water details, and pics to go along. A big shout out goes to Dan for also helping out in the pictures taken and forwarding to my self.
In spite of the lack of number of bass caught, I hope that we can again place this on our 2015 schedule as I believe most would agree to the potential down at this place.
A big Congrats to Kyle for taking 1st place and bringing in a nice bag. Damn...you somewhat called it!!!! Way to go Brian aka "SubFish" on that 2nd place finish and Lunker Monster Bass!!! Was it full of eggs? Would love to hear the story of how it hit and your battle to get her in the boat?
To all the members and 3 guest that came out to play, I hope the day was a scenic as the webpages looked.
Thanks to all who came out and Jiggen Den, Rob, and Dan for taking the lead.
See you at the NorthEast River, MD in less than 2 weeks.

Just woke up!
Congrats Kyle and Brian! That was some fish Brian.
No problem, glad I could help. My day started with a dud when my newly fixed outboard failed to make it out of the marina haha. Luckily my 112 kicks ass and I was able to fish hall's and the creek across the marina at the end. Only a couple shorts and a striper for my efforts but a return visit will happen. |

Thanks everyone. Bn u said I somewhat called it lol but it was crazy tough for me too. Those 3 fish were the only 3 I caught all day. I just don't get why they weren't biting other than we fished the incoming tide which is the wrong one. I'm making another prediction now. On our flats tx on 5/15 as long as the weather is stable that we will have at least 2 bags over 10 lbs and that we will have a new lunker of the year. I'm not saying that it's going to be me with either of those predictions but I know someone will blow that place wide open. 3 for 14+ wouldn't surprise me one bit. We have some really good fishermen in our club and the flats this time of year is arguably the best big bass area on the east coast so I think it's going to be a slugfest. At least I hope so lol. Also congrats to Brian on taking 2nd and lunker and Bob on 3rd. See u guys next Thursday |
