Well this my friends and members is what greeted some of us when revisiting the Sassafras River Part Deux!
Having missed out on our first excursion to this new body of water, I wanted to explore places and areas that I thought would produce.

Well that tink...tink noise was produced by this young fella...LOL!!!

On a Live Target Mid diving bluegill type crankbait.
Alright back to business. Today, SJHT had 7 members and 1 guest Dan's brother Sam F. come out to do battle on the Sassafras River. Sam did not disappoint...check out the Tale of the tape!
There were 3 Limits brought to the scales. 7 out of 8 anglers weighed at least 1 Bass. There were a total of 14 Bass weighed in totalling 43.32lbs. That gave way to avg. bass weight of 3.09lbs.
Without further adieu, please give a big shoutout to Rob "Ram1212" M. for catching his best 3 bass bag ever. Rob weighed in 3 Bass going 11.75lbs. His Lunker went 4.47lbs. All three of his Bass seemed identical in terms of weight but in the end, it didn't really hurt his overall position. Second place was won by Bob S. with 3 Bass going 7.51lbs. Bob's lunker went 3.40lbs. Third place was taken by Brian "SubFish" M. via Guest default with 2 Bass going 5.79lbs. The winner Lunker went 4.64lbs by Jiggen Den.
Way to figure them out men and make things interesting.

Dan and Sam F.

Here was that other culprit making that Tink...Tink... Tink sound.....

Yes..finally got the 2014 skunk off of myself! Still SMDH!!! LOL!!!
So in summary, the Sassafras showed us another different side to her compared to our 1st venture there almost a month ago. Definitely more bass caught but how they were relating to certain structures like docks, lay downs, hidden stumps, and just key spots proved to be the difference maker. Anglers, including myself reported losing some nice ones along the side of the boat or just not setting the hook good. Anglers thought about venturing out towards the Northeast River but the increasingly strongs winds and waves changed our minds. LOL!!! For the most part anglers stayed put. Congrats again to Rob, Bob, Brian, and Jiggen Den. The weather was excellent and the pleasure boaters were not too bad.
Thanks to all for coming out and making the Sass Part Deux an event!
See you all in 3 weeks for our next Club Tournament at the Menatico Sand Ponds.

Thanks BN & Den.
BN, great report and pic. Very glad you got that skunk off.
Den, nice lunker! I know that one felt good. Congrats to Bob on the 2nd place finish and all the other fish catchers.
It was a great day for me. I threw back a fish close to 4lbs as a cull. Unfortunately the one i kept died. Live and learn.
Last 2 trips to MD, all though long were very good to me. Can't wait to go back. |

Way to go Rob! That's a great bag for down there. I fished the Chester County open with my brother. We planned on running down to the sassafras but it got way too windy. I prefished down there on Thursday and they were biting really good. We only ended up with 5 for 16.3 lbs with 3 of them being rats lol. Anyway great job everyone including Bob with 2nd and Den with lunker. Now that I got booted out of 1st it looks like I need to bring my A game. |
