Today's Title Header and photo"CSI"- Menatico SP.

Having replaced the still open Cooper River with this place, Menatico proved a bit tough and the scene where 1 angler lost his lunch money. More towards the end.
SJHT re-opened there closed NJ Bass seasoned with a visit to the infamous Sand Ponds of Menatico. 12 Anglers came out to do battle. Knowing how tough it has always been, we put up a pickerel pot. What started out being a tough day for most, ala the CSI pic above, anglers including myself had suddle bites with dinks in the 11" and 11.5" range, but nothing over 12". Our resident 2nd year member Rendell got his pocket picked while 3 members of the club witnessed it. A Nice fish was on and according to the witnesses, everything was done by the book except landing it. This assailant Bass was about to be swung into the boat but with all looking on, he said "Peace....wouldn't want to be ya" and was gone after performing a slight aerial maneuver. I kinda just shook my head and the Dave Chappelle in me came out. Sorry to digress.
There was only 1 Limit brought to the scales. 7 out of 12 anglers weighed at least 1 Bass. There were a total of 11 Bass weighed in totalling 18.05lbs. That gave way to avg. bass weight of 1.64lbs.
Without further adieu, please give a big shout-out to Brian "SubFish" M. for catching 2 bass going 5.35lbs[/b]. His Lunker went 3.63lbs. Second place was won by Bill *FishinTroop* C. with 2 Bass going 4.20lbs. Troops lunker went 3.07lbs. Third place was taken by Jiggen Den with 3 Bass going 3.30lbs.
Way to figure them out men on an otherwise tough day.

Here's the official Menatico SP Tale of the Tape:

So in summary, the Menatico SP proved to be another tough South Jersey body of water. Some anglers had an early bite while Brian didn't catch his biggun and bass till very later in the day. With the overcast skies and occasional spitting rain, we all thought the bite would turn on. Heading back to the Maurice River proved difficult for some that attempted as the passage way is somewhat littered by a fallen tree and the turning radius in a glass boat is almost not worth the attempt. Outside of the dinks being caught, I caught 2 decent size pickeral. One close to the 3lb range in which I through back in front of Jay and John....which was followed by the "Oh Chit" phrase. LOL
Getting back to our CSI Title above, most victims\accusers want to try and re-create the actual act of the crime. Outside of the Yellow tape, the freeze frame when the Bass broke Mr. Rendell off, and the same witnesses, it was witnessed once again by yours truly Round 2.

Turning back into Dave Chappelle, I shouted out the scene from the movie "Friday", where De-Bow knocked the guy out over his bicycle. Rendell was not thrilled but took it all in with a laugh. That lost earlier Bass definitely was still on his mind and maybe...just maybe she was still lurking in that same area. NOT!
And that my friend is how the day ended and the case went unsolved. The End.
Congrats again to Brian, Troop, and Jiggen Den.
See you allnext week for our next Club Tournament at Stewarts Lake .
Tightlines,
BN06

WOW...that's a report...lol. Congrats Brian on catching 2 chunks and to Jiggin' Den on a limit My two keepers were my first two fish of the day. I missed a few and had a number of shorts and lost count of the pickeral. Had what I thought was a contender pickeral and Nasty blew it away. Congrats Bud Fished topwater (buzzbait, buzzin' frog, popper) pretty much all day as I was getting bites, but couldn't get that third keeper |

Congrats To Brian on his first win and to Den and Troop!
I could not get anything going all day for some reason. I had one fish come off that might have been 12 inches and a small toothy bastard that I didn't bother keeping because it was so small. Never boated a bass all day.
If I could do it over again I would not have turned around before the last pool. Not sure why I did but living and learning again. See you all next week. |

Thanks guys. Very excited to get my first win even if some of the big guns were absent. Great job to Troop, Den, BN and everyone else who came out.
Didn't get many bites through the day, in fact I don't think I missed any actual hits, for once, so 3 small pics and the 2 bass were it. Did have a huge swipe at a moving plastic which looked like a small submarine. I have to admit that I think I subconsciously pulled the lure away from him because I have no grippers.
Got the smaller bass around 8 in the first off-shoot pond on the left and got the bigger one around 11 off an ambush point in the main creek during the outgoing.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Stewart. |
